Kenya Power unveils plans to set up 45 new electric vehicle charging stations across six counties.
Kenya Power has announced plans to install 45 new electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across six counties within the next year.
The aim is to accelerate the country’s transition to electric mobility and reduce carbon emissions.
The EV chargers will be installed in Nairobi, Nyeri, Kisumu, Eldoret, Nakuru, Mombasa, and Taita Taveta counties.
Notably, six of these charging stations will be located at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
Speaking at the 3rd Annual E-Mobility Conference and Expo, Kenya Power’s Managing Director, Dr. Joseph Siror, emphasized the company’s commitment to enabling the country’s transition to electric mobility.
He stated, “Kenya Power is committed to enabling the country’s transition to electric mobility to catalyse the reduction of carbon emissions.”
The initiative comes amid a significant increase in the number of EVs registered in Kenya.
According to the Electric Mobility Association of Kenya (EMAK), there are approximately 9,047 EVs registered in the country.
This is a substantial rise from 2,694 in 2023 and 5,294 in 2024.

The company is also exploring the establishment of local battery assembly plants to further reduce EV costs and promote adoption.
This move aligns with the government’s efforts to promote e-mobility through the introduction of an e-mobility tariff and tax incentives
