AI in education takes center stage as President Museveni calls for its adoption to propel Uganda’s socio-economic transformation.
AI in education was a focal point during President Yoweri Museveni’s address at the International Day of Education 2025 celebrations held at Kololo Independence Grounds,
Kampala. The event, themed “AI and Education: Preserving Human Agency in a World of Automation,” highlighted the transformative potential of artificial intelligence in Uganda’s educational landscape.
President Museveni emphasized the essential need for Africa to accept science and technology as a means to bypass past failures.
President Museveni said that Europe found gunpowder at a time when our society remained in the bow-and-arrow era. Africa needs to prevent any further scientific and technological delay from occurring.
AI represents the practical application of natural laws to problem-solving according to the president who warned citizens against fearing its adoption.
The president supported technological progress yet he stated that social science fields especially economics and entrepreneurship continue to be essential for national development.
These scientific approaches should serve as the basis to achieve meaningful development according to his vision.
During his remarks the President reconfirmed his plan to implement free education in all government schools across Uganda.
Universal education requires removing all school fees because he recognized these costs as the main obstacles which block children from receiving schooling.
First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports Janet Museveni showed appreciation for how President Museveni supported the education sector.
The government official highlighted two main points about education which includes its fundamental position as a basic human right and its central role in national progress.
Uganda plans to integrate technology into its learning systems by placing priority on artificial intelligence because it wants students to develop modern-world skills.
