Nigerian lawyer and activist Maduabuchi Idam has filed a formal petition with the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) demanding that the reality show Big Brother Naija be banned or strictly regulated within 30 days.

In the strongly worded letter titled “Urgent Need to Ban or Regulate BBNaija Within 30 Days”, Idam accused the show’s producers of deliberately promoting obscene, indecent, and morally offensive content to the Nigerian public especially during its live broadcasts.

According to the petition, BBNaija Season 10 has featured real-time display of nudity, profanity, and what the lawyer called “public sexual grooming”, which he believes violates the NBC Code and the general moral compass of Nigerian society.

“The activities of the show are in total violation of the laws regulating broadcasting and public morality. This is a dangerous cultural export that pollutes the minds of our youth,” Idam stated.

Idam is requesting the NBC to take urgent regulatory action to either temporarily suspend the show, ban it outright, or enforce stricter content filters on what is broadcast, especially during prime time when minors may be watching.

He also threatened to seek legal redress if the NBC fails to act within the 30-day window, citing its responsibility as a public regulator to protect the interest of Nigerian citizens.
