Former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has passed away in London.

The news was confirmed on Sunday afternoon by his former aide, Bashir Ahmad, via a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

“The family of the former president has announced the passing on of the former president, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, this afternoon in a clinic in London. May Allah accept him in Aljannatul Firdaus. Amin,” Ahmad wrote.

Buhari served as Nigeria’s civilian president from 2015 to 2023 and previously led the country as a military head of state between 1983 and 1985. He was widely recognized for his anti-corruption agenda and efforts to stabilize the Nigerian economy during his time in office.

The family is expected to release details of the burial arrangements in line with Islamic rites.
