Canada leads globally in remote work adoption, survey finds, with Canadians averaging 1.7 work-from-home days per week, surpassing other nations in embracing flexible work arrangements.

Canada leads globally in remote work adoption, survey finds, according to a recent global survey conducted by the Ifo Institute and EconPol Europe.

The study, encompassing over 42,000 full-time employees across 34 countries, reveals that Canadians work from home an average of 1.7 days per week—the highest among surveyed nations.

The United Kingdom follows Canada with 1.5 days as well as the United States with 1.4 days are the countries that trail behind Canada.

In contrast, employees in countries like Germany and Japan average one and half a day of remote work per week, respectively.

The top position Canada holds worldwide does not eliminate the difference between what staff desire in flexibility and what their employers currently offer.

Canadian employees want to work remotely for 2.5 days a week but their employers plan to provide an average of 1.8 days remote work duration.

Staff members across the world demonstrate their preference for remote work flexibility but employers show reluctance to extend permanent remote arrangements.

According to the survey both workers worldwide desire two days of remote work yet their employers authorize an average of 1.1 days telework.

The percentage of Canadian workers who do most of their work from home locations has reduced since initial assessment periods.

Statistics Canada found that home-based work was performed by 18.7% of employees during May 2024 but this number had decreased from 24.3% in May 2021.

Despite these favorable conditions the infrastructure and cultural openness toward remote work continues to enable its widespread acceptance in the country.

Remote work adoption has flourished in Canada because its citizenry uses digital collaboration tools daily combined with easy access to high-speed Internet.

Canada’s experience demonstrates why organizations should combine employee preferred arrangements with business targets to achieve both workplace productivity and employee satisfaction in modern work environments.
