In contrast, employees in countries like Germany and Japan average one and half a day of remote work per week, respectively.
The top position Canada holds worldwide does not eliminate the difference between what staff desire in flexibility and what their employers currently offer.

Staff members across the world demonstrate their preference for remote work flexibility but employers show reluctance to extend permanent remote arrangements.

Statistics Canada found that home-based work was performed by 18.7% of employees during May 2024 but this number had decreased from 24.3% in May 2021.
Despite these favorable conditions the infrastructure and cultural openness toward remote work continues to enable its widespread acceptance in the country.
