The Traders Advocacy Group Ghana (TAGG) has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss of eight lives in a military helicopter crash that occurred on Wednesday in the Ashanti Region.
The victims included Defence Minister Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, along with three other passengers and three crew members.
This incident has sent shockwaves across the nation, prompting calls for urgent action to determine the cause of the crash.
In a statement, TAGG conveyed its condolences to the bereaved families and the entire nation, describing the deaths as a “monumental loss” to Ghana’s leadership and development efforts.
The group emphasized that such a tragedy should not pass without a thorough and transparent inquiry.
“The safety of our national leaders and all citizens is paramount. We call on the government and relevant agencies to conduct a full-scale investigation, make the findings public, and implement measures to prevent such occurrences in the future,” TAGG stated.
They also urged that lessons be learned from the incident to strengthen aviation safety protocols, particularly for official and military flights.
The Ghanaian presidency has yet to release an official preliminary report, but Chief of Staff Akosua Frema Osei-Opare confirmed the ministers’ deaths and pledged that the government will ensure a full investigation.
