Ghanaian gospel singer Evangelist Akwasi Nyarko has issued a tearful appeal to former President John Dramani Mahama, First Lady Lordina Mahama and the NDC leadership.
He claimed that his career is ruined by his support of the 2024 election in a campaign song.
Nyarko pointed out that the blowback has caused extreme financial difficulty, such as hunger and an inability to support his children.
He spoke outrightly:
“I plead with President Mahama, the First Lady, Lordina Mahama and the NDC executives. Do not forget me. I require assistance to raise myself and my children.”
The artist who is based in the Ashanti Region claimed that his message of support to the NDC made him be rejected by the locals.
People are divided on whether or not to sympathize with him or to criticize the fact that he was mixing politics and gospel ministry
The case of Nyarko increases the difficulties that artists can encounter in case they join politics.
He is hoping that his open testimony will stir up the NDC to help him and encourage discussions on how musicians can be saved when they turn political.
