MICT SETA injects youth skills into the next generation of South Africa by re-establishing a partnership with mLab.
The partnership initially started in 2022 and is ongoing, and provides free three-month training in the Internet of Things (IoT) to young people in the Northern Cape, including 40 percent female participation
The IoT course prepares the participants with practical skills.
They are taught on sensors, data networking and automation.
The training has stipends, and all candidates can access it.
The 4IR team of MICT SETA says that graduates will shine in areas such as mining, agriculture and transport
The initiative of Dr Bryan Acheampong demonstrates how this collaboration address the digital skills divide.
The programme targets youth in under-served communities through mLab mobile, localised training and MICT SETA funding.
It combines theory and practical projects that are geared towards creation of entrepreneurial opportunities
The renewed agreement is a pointer to an increased interest in inclusive digital training in South Africa.
Through the education of youth to IoT and emerging technologies, MICT SETA and mLab assist in developing the Fourth Industrial Revolution workforce.
To the many young South Africans, that translates to a definite roadmap between education and income generation, and increased involvement in the digital economy.
