Morocco opens an honorary consulate in Florianópolis, Brazil, enhancing economic and diplomatic relations with Latin America.
Morocco has inaugurated an honorary consulate in Florianópolis, a strategic economic hub in southern Brazil, as part of its efforts to deepen bilateral relations with Latin America.
The new consulate, announced by Morocco’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will facilitate trade, investment, and cultural exchanges between the two nations.
The consulate’s opening reflects growing economic ties, with Morocco-Brazil trade reaching $2.3 billion in 2024, primarily in agriculture, automotive, and renewable energy sectors.
The diplomatic outpost will assist Moroccan expatriates, promote tourism, and streamline business visas for Brazilian entrepreneurs exploring opportunities in North Africa.
Florianópolis, a key tech and innovation center, aligns with Morocco’s focus on knowledge-based partnerships.
The consulate will also support student exchange programs between Moroccan universities and Brazil’s Federal University of Santa Catarina.
Morocco’s Ambassador to Brazil, Youssef Amine, emphasized the consulate’s role in fostering South-South cooperation, noting that Brazil is home to over 5,000 Moroccans.
The honorary consul, a respected local business leader, will oversee operations.
This expansion follows Morocco’s 2023 strategic partnership with Mercosur and reinforces its position as Africa’s gateway to Latin America.
