UAE and Egypt launch a landmark green industry partnership, positioning MENA as a hub for renewable energy and low-carbon manufacturing.
The United Arab Emirates and Egypt have unveiled a $15 billion strategic partnership to accelerate the Middle East and North Africa’s (MENA) transition to sustainable industry.
Announced at the World Economic Forum Special Meeting in Riyadh, the collaboration combines Emirati financing with Egyptian industrial capacity to decarbonize key sectors.
The UAE’s Masdar and Egypt’s New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA) will co-lead implementation, leveraging $7 billion in private sector commitments already secured.
The initiative aims to:
- Create 500,000 green jobs by 2035
- Reduce regional industrial emissions by 18%
- Position Egypt as Africa’s green hydrogen gateway
Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly highlighted the partnership’s timing: “This transforms our 2022 COP27 commitments into concrete action.”
UAE Energy Minister Suhail Al Mazrouei noted the deal complements the Abu Dhabi Declaration on climate-neutral industries.
Analysts observe the alliance strengthens both nations’ positions ahead of COP28 in Dubai, where global steel and cement decarbonization pacts will be finalized.
With MENA’s industrial emissions growing 5.2% annually, this partnership could redefine regional climate leadership.
