The Anambra State Government has taken decisive action in the aftermath of the viral assault on a female National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, announcing the sack of the vigilante officers involved and ordering their prosecution.
Governor Charles Soludo gave the directive on Monday after video footage showing the young corps member being slapped and manhandled by members of a local vigilance group sparked nationwide outrage.
In an official statement released by the state government, Soludo described the assault as “barbaric, unacceptable and totally against the values of Anambra State”. He instructed the State Commissioner of Police to begin immediate criminal proceedings against all those identified in the video.
“No individual has the right to assault a corps member or any Nigerian citizen in such a degrading manner. The full weight of the law must apply,” the statement read.

The Anambra State Government also confirmed that the victim has received medical attention and has been placed under protective supervision until investigations are completed.
The move follows strong condemnation from the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), women’s rights groups, and thousands of citizens online.
