Guinness World Record holder Hilda Baci sets the stage for another landmark culinary event in Eko Hotel, Lagos.
Guinness World Record holder Hilda Baci gears up to attempt another astonishing feat by cooking the world’s biggest pot of jollof rice.
In the early hours of Thursday, a huge red cooking pot that is as large as a small swimming pool arrived at Eko Hotel, Victoria Island, where the cook-a-thon would be happening.
With a capacity of 22,619 litres, the pot was created in Gbagada and moved under heavy supervision.
Social media was buzzing with videos of the delivery as several clips show the pot, emblazoned with the logo of popular food brand Gino, being offloaded by a team of handlers.
Confirming its arrival in a post on Instagram, Hilda wrote, “At 4am this morning our pot was safely transported from Gbagada where it was fabricated to Eko Hotel where the event is taking place.
“I’m still pinching myself this is actually happening in less than 24 hours.”She further exclaimed.
It’s important to note that this is not Hilda’s first brush with global attention, In 2023, she broke the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual, cooking for over 93 hours at Amore Gardens in Lagos.
A feat that earned her international recognition, her stamina, precision and creativity in the kitchen turned the cook-a-thon into a viral sensation and cemented her status as one of Nigeria’s most celebrated culinary figures.
With the record attempt, the event is also being framed as a celebration of West Africa’s most beloved dish and an opportunity to showcase Nigerian food culture to a global audience.
On X (formerly Twitter), several fans have been sharing their excitement, Ruth Shobande posted, “If anyone can pull this off, it’s Hilda, She already cooked non-stop for days, Baci is about to make history!”
Another fan, Tayo wrote, “The scale of this is mind-blowing. Can’t wait to see the final pot of jollof rice.”
Instagram comments under Hilda’s post were filled with emojis, prayers and good-luck wishes, reflecting the growing anticipation around the event.
With the globe watching, Hilda Baci’s latest challenge is shaping up not only as a record-breaking attempt but also as a moment of national pride and global curiosity about Nigeria’s food scene.
Organisers say the cook-a-thon at Eko Hotel will be open to spectators, with food lovers, celebrities, chefs and media expected to attend.
Live music performances and cultural displays would also come alive to give visitors a festival like atmosphere while Hilda works to set another Guinness World Record.
