Afrobeat singer and activist Seun Kuti has triggered widespread reactions online following a blunt response to critics questioning his relevance and family legacy.

The outspoken musician addressed the criticism in a viral video, where he defended his achievements and invoked the enduring influence of his late father, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.

In the clip, Seun ridiculed those who downplay his success, saying many fail to understand the meaning of lasting accomplishment.

“I just collected 120,000 US dollars based on my papa’s name.

Not my work. Just because I am Fela’s child,” he said.

He stressed that Fela died 29 years ago, adding,

“How many of una father fit send una money from the grave 29 years later?”

Seun argued that his remarks were not about wealth but about enduring impact and influence.

According to him, many critics confuse temporary riches with true achievement, which he said is built on culture, values, and global relevance.

“You don’t know what it means to be the child of somebody who accomplished something, because your fathers never accomplished anything,” he stated.

The comments quickly sparked heated debate across social media platforms.

Supporters applauded Seun for boldly defending Fela’s legacy, while critics accused him of arrogance and unnecessary provocation.

As the video continues to trend, discussions around privilege, legacy, and true accomplishment in Nigeria remain intense and deeply divided.

“I just collected $120,000 28 years after my father’s death, just because I’m Fela’s son.
