Immediate past National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Abdullahi Ganduje, has assured Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, of victory in the 2027 governorship election and pledged full support for his second-term bid following his defection from the New Nigeria Peoples Party back to the APC.

Ganduje made the pledge on Monday during a ceremony welcoming Yusuf to the ruling party at the Coronation Hall, Government House, Kano, describing the governor’s return as a “historic homecoming” and a major boost for APC in the state.

“You will win your second term in 2027. We have spoken to all aspirants, and they have agreed to support you,” Ganduje said.

“In APC, all serving governors are leaders of the party in their respective states. Therefore, you are the leader of the APC in Kano State.

“We were in APC together with you, it was formed with you; but later, on, because of some political differences, political redirection, you left the party for the NNPP but now, we are thankful that you are back to our party and your home.

The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority has unveiled a new campaign aimed at tackling sexual harassment across public transport systems in Lagos

The campaign, tagged ‘Soro Soke’ (Speak Up), was unveiled on Tuesday during a stakeholders’ engagement held at LAMATA’s headquarters.

“The initiative seeks to improve commuter safety and promote a gender-equitable and inclusive transport system, particularly for female passengers.

“With the ‘Soro Soke’ campaign, LAMATA reinforces its resolve to make Lagos public transport safer, more inclusive, and responsive, ensuring that every voice matters and every commuter is protected,” LAMATA said.

The engagement formed part of EMPOWER Project 3, which focuses on addressing sexual harassment in informal transport spaces.

Rivers dismisses claims of removing Tinubu’s portrait from govt house

The Rivers State Government has denied allegations that Governor Siminalayi Fubara removed the official portrait of President Bola Tinubu from the Government House, Port Harcourt.

This was contained in a statement by the Permanent Secretary of the State Ministry of Information and Communications, Honour Sirawoo, on Tuesday evening.

Sirawoo was reacting to a statement which he claimed was credited to the state chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria and allegedly authored by ‘Bestman Innocent Amadi’.

According to the Permanent Secretary, the author of the said statement accused Fubara of disrespecting the President by removing his official portrait from the state seat of power.

But Sirawoo described the allegation as misleading and irresponsible, saying Fubara now enjoys even a more robust and cordial relationship with the President and his administration, as well as the Renewed Hope Agenda family.

Rivers govt moves to employ 5000 into civil service

The Rivers State Executive Council has approved the recruitment of 5,000 indigenes into the state civil service.

The lifted embargo is intended to enhance administrative efficiency and public service delivery.

This decision was reached during the second council meeting of 2026, presided over by Governor Siminalayi Fubara, with the Deputy Governor, Prof. Ngozi Nma Odu, in attendance, on Tuesday at Government House, Port Harcourt.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Communications, Dr. Honor Sirawoo, while addressing the media men after meeting, disclosed that the recruitment is strategically focused on the education sector.

Military should have apologised to Nigerians after denying coup plot – Falana

Human rights lawyer Femi Falana, SAN, has criticised the Nigerian military for failing to apologise to Nigerians after previously denying reports of a coup plot, only to later confirm the existence of an alleged plot to overthrow the government.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Tuesday, Falana said,

“Yesterday, the military authorities ought to have apologized to Nigerians. People in authority must learn to take us seriously as a people.”

The military had, on Monday, announced that some officers would face a military judicial panel over the alleged coup plot, more than three months after it initially arrested 16 officers for acts of indiscipline and violations of service regulations.

The military had, on Monday, announced that some officers would face a military judicial panel over the alleged coup plot, more than three months after it initially arrested 16 officers for acts of indiscipline and violations of service regulations.

In October 2025, the military denied that the cancellation of the 2025 Independence Day parade was linked to any such plot, describing such claims as “false, malicious, and capable of creating unnecessary tension and distrust among Nigerians.”

Oborevwori charges police to go tough on criminals, firearm bearers

Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta has charged security agencies to arrest and prosecute any individual found in possession of firearms or attempting to disrupt peace in the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The governor gave the directive when the Commissioner of Police in Delta, Mr Aina Adesola, and senior officers of the command visited him on Tuesday in Asaba.

Oborevwori described Adesola’s posting to the state as a homecoming, noting that the police chief was well acquainted with the state, having previously served in key operational positions within the command.

He said the relative peace currently being enjoyed across the state reflected the collaboration between the police and other security agencies.

The governor said that the new commissioner has demonstrated experience, professionalism, and a deep understanding of the terrain.

Why governors can’t grant amnesty to terrorists– Lawyers

Senior legal practitioners in the country on Tuesday described the granting of amnesty to terrorists by state governors as an anomaly.

In separate interviews with Vanguard, the lawyers maintained that no portion of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, conferred such powers on governors.

They were unanimous in their stance that terrorism, being a federal offence, fell outside the scope of powers of state governors.

According to a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Mr. Kunle Edun, “Terrorism is a federal crime under the Terrorism (Prevention & Prohibition) Act, 2022, which is a federal legislation passed by the National Assembly.”
