Nigerian social commentator, Verydarkman, has weighed in on the ongoing online outcry over the surge in airfare prices across the country, dismissing the complaints and openly supporting the airlines’ decision to increase ticket costs.

Speaking in a new video, he disclosed the amounts he recently paid for flights, stating that he spent ₦300,000 for a trip from Abuja to Adamawa and another ₦300,000 for the return journey.

He added that his Lagos flight cost ₦280,000, noting that the prices didn’t bother him.

He criticised those expressing outrage over the hike, claiming that many people simply want to discredit the airlines.

According to him, airlines have the right to set their prices as they deem fit, just like any private business.

Verydarkman argued that individuals who cannot afford the new rates should not condemn the companies, insisting that they should instead start their own airline businesses if they believe the prices are unfair.

He emphasised that affordability is the real issue for many critics, not the price adjustment itself.

He further maintained that he has no problem paying even higher fares, stating that he would still buy a ticket regardless of how high the price climbs.

His words in part …

“I paid ₦300k for flight from Abuja to Adamawa w, Adamawa back to Abuja another ₦300k. Even Lagos flight was ₦280k.

Most of you that are complaining about the airline hike, you people just want to bring them down. It is their business if they want to hike the price.

If they hike the price go and buy your own airplane and star your own air business. Stop trying to bring people down if they increase price of things.

Just because you cannot afford it that is why you’re talking negative about their business.

Me, even if they decide to take it to N1M I can afford it, I will pay.”
