Technical education boost is coming as Nigeria’s Federal Government earmarks N120bn for vocational training upgrades.

The funding will modernize technical colleges across all 36 states.

The Education Minister Tahir Mamman made this announcement in Abuja.

He said this initiative solves the severe lack of skilled labor throughout Nigeria.

The five-year program begins in Q3 2025. The first priority states will access advanced workshops and brand-new equipment.

The educational development scheme brings changes to the academic programs that follow industry requirements.

The university aims to establish cooperative agreements with both German and Chinese technical school institutions.

President Tinubu has termed this initiative essential for economic development.

The plan targets reducing youth unemployment by 25% by 2030.

All participating states need to contribute thirty percent of the total program expenses as matching funds.

Private sector partners will make available apprenticeship programs for students.

This initiative adopts successful programming designs from both India and Rwanda.

This initiative targets two specific high-demand discipline groups including renewable energy and mechatronics.

Nigeria currently deals with 43% youth unemployment while technical education receives a much-needed support.

Various experts predict that vocational training skills have the potential to create 5 million employment opportunities until 2028.

Training facilities will verify the competency of welders electricians and auto-mechanics.

Digital skills programs will be incorporated as part of educational offerings beginning from every educational level.
