Timaya music journey reveals why breaking through in the 2000s was harder than today’s digital-driven music scene.

Timaya music journey is a powerful reminder of how tough the Nigerian industry was in the 2000s.

The veteran artist recently claimed breaking through was more difficult then compared to now.

He said musicians today have it easier thanks to the internet and streaming platforms.

Timaya shared his thoughts during a media chat in Ghana, calling out the struggles of his early career.

Back then, Timaya explained, artists pushed their songs manually without major backing.
There were no streaming platforms, and many couldn’t afford even basic studio sessions.

“Music in our days wasn’t like this,” Timaya said.
“You didn’t wait for a label or sponsorship — you worked with your own passion.”

He noted that social media has helped level the playing field for talented upcoming artists.
Now, a single viral post can change an artist’s life.

But Timaya warned that even though access is easier, modern music is now more expensive to produce.
A top-quality music video now costs ₦50 to ₦100 million, he claimed.

This shift has also caused a rise in booking fees for top Nigerian artists.

Despite these hurdles, Timaya said the love for music should always come first.

He encouraged new artists to stay consistent and true to themselves.

Timaya music continues to evolve, but his message is clear: respect the grind of those who paved the way.
