Ghanaian sound engineer and music producer Possigee, has disclosed that the absence of a decent pension system in Ghana compelled him to go to find a better future elsewhere.
Possigee clarified that the majority of the creatives in Ghana do not have a bright future after retirement.
He was worried about having no safety net or good pension that he could count on in the future.
Finland, in comparison, provides a well developed social welfare scheme, such as pension benefits.
He explained that he did not go to study in Finland because of education but to also have a future that Ghana could not offer.
He wants to know more of the superior social systems and may come back with the ideas of how to fix broken structure of Ghana.
Possigee advised other professionals to put much thought in their future security.
He cautioned that celebrity and present earnings are not enough in a nation with no decent retirement scheme.
His confession has caused a fiery response on the internet.
His honesty received a lot of praise by young Ghanaians.
They termed his story as a wake-up call to leaders to address the pension crisis in the country.
The audacious step by Possigee has brought new discussions on the topics of retirement.
Also on social security, and the way the creative industry is treated in Ghana.
What he is saying is that unless there is actual pension reform there will be many more who will have to run away.
