Morocco U-20 coach Ouahbi reflects on AFCON final loss, sets sights on FIFA U-20 World Cup, emphasizing team resilience and future prospects.
Morocco’s U-20 national team coach, Mohamed Ouahbi, has expressed his bewilderment following the team’s 1-0 defeat to South Africa in the final of the 2025 TotalEnergies CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations held in Egypt.

“I still don’t understand how we didn’t win this final,” Ouahbi remarked post-match.
“We had the upper hand in every aspect – possession, chances, territory, corner kicks – everything. But somehow the trophy slipped through our fingers.”
Throughout the tournament, Morocco showcased impressive performances, remaining unbeaten in the group stages, edging past Sierra Leone in extra time during the quarter-finals, and defeating hosts Egypt in the semi-finals.

Looking ahead, Morocco will participate in the FIFA U-20 World Cup scheduled to take place in Chile later this year.

Ouahbi concluded, “They are heartbroken now, but this experience will make them stronger.
