The opposition party ADC has strongly rebuked the ruling APC and President Bola Tinubu for what it calls political opportunism in mourning former President Muhammadu Buhari.

ADC interim spokesperson Bolaji Abdullahi accused the APC of hypocrisy, blaming Buhari over the past two years, then positioning themselves as chief mourners at his funeral.

ADC’s nationwide mourning directive includes a three-day suspension of political activities starting July 15, alongside calls to honour Buhari’s legacy of integrity, humility, and public service rather than stunt-politics.

Bolaji Abdullahi criticised the APC-led government for allegedly using Buhari’s death as leverage to reclaim political capital they had reportedly dismantled.

“They spent two years tarnishing his record,” he said, “now they posture as mourners – this is sheer hypocrisy.”

The death of Buhari has fueled speculation of potential defections from his loyalists.
ADC officials claim top figures from Buhari’s own CPC network including Abubakar Malami and Nasir El-Rufai—are now part of the coalition.

They suggest Buhari supporters are aligning with ADC after feeling alienated within the APC.

In contrast, the APC has dismissed these accusations. Presidential adviser Bayo Onanuga called the ADC a “desperate coalition” driven by resentment toward Tinubu, not national interest.

He cautioned Nigerians against being misled by opposition narratives.
