MTN subscribers in three states Adamawa, Borno, and Kano are set to experience a temporary service disruption this coming Saturday, August 24, as the telecom operator carries out scheduled maintenance to replace damaged fiber routes.

The maintenance will span approximately two hours, from 6:00 AM to 8:00 AM, during which 101 network sites across 15 Local Government Areas (LGAs) will be affected.

Work involves cutting over traffic to newly installed fiber infrastructure along the AFCOT–Bawo Village corridor in Adamawa State. MTN explained that the fiber route is linear and unprotected, so this operation must occur during daylight hours for safety reasons

Specific LGAs impacted include Girei, Song, Mubi North, Hong, Gombi, Fufore, Mubi South, Madagali, Michika, Maiha, Chibok, and Yola North in Adamawa; Askira/Uba and Shani in Borno; and Nasarawa LGA in Kano State.

MTN assured subscribers that the interruption is necessary to restore network stability and improve overall service reliability in the affected areas.

The notice is one of the issues plaguing Nigerian telecoms: frequent fiber cuts, often caused by construction mishaps, vandalism, or poor coordination, which collectively cost operators billions in repairs and disrupt services nationwide
