The appeal reflects Algeria’s current diplomatic initiative to solve the humanitarian crisis affecting Gaza.

During May 2024 Algeria submitted a draft resolution to the UN Security Council to establish Gaza ceasefire conditions and free all Hamas hostages and immediately stop Israeli military operations in Rafah.

According to Algerian UN representative Amar Bendjama the main objective is to put an end to the killings in Rafah.

More than 24,762 Palestinians died and 62,108 Palestinians were injured since the conflict began according to reports including all fatalities being women and children.

Division exists within the international community regarding the civilian deaths as some UN Security Council members criticize the situation.

Others primarily support Israeli military actions.

The Algerian government under President Tebboune shows its dedication to Palestinian rights through its pursuit of accountability in the ongoing conflict.
