In a significant political development, opposition members have called for a merger in the run up for the 2027 General elections. This move comes as the Labour Party (LP) firmly states that there would be no automatic ticket for Peter Obi – former LP presidential candidate.

Key visionaries within the opposition believe that a merger would boost their chances of success in the upcoming elections so as to unsit the ruling party in the next general elections.

Ex-NNPP presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso debunked this rumour saying it is not true. In an interview with BBC Hausa, Kwankwaso denied the agreement, saying that leaders should not get involved with anything related to the selection of candidates. According to him, “people should be allowed to choose who they really want to be President”, he said.

Meanwhile, also clearing the air about a possible merger with any opposition, Peter Obi, in a press conference in Abuja stated that there was no merger deal between him and any opposition.

Also, the Labour Party (LP) has clearly stated that there would be no automatic ticket for Peter Obi. Obi emerged as the party’s presidential candidate in the last general elections.
