Highlife artist Kwabena Kwabena whose real name is Emmanuel Kwabena Botchwey and currently promoting his single track “Aso,” recently granted an interview to Joy Prime where he gave details about his life and music career. The two halves of the interview depicted the artist’s view on the aspects of parenting, change in career and his exclusive mannerisms.

It is in these discussions, that Kwabena explained how he wanted to keep a natural parenting style without interfering with the development of the child in the manner that modern society forces via childhood.

“I would engage them to be able to enjoy their life as juveniles, enjoy their lives as kids and be their masters,” he said. The artist, who at the time of this interview had three children, two boys and a girl, said he was willing to have more children, affectionately referring to the new addition as a “pension baby.”

An interesting turn was when discussing the issue of professional affiliations and mentorship. As much as Kwabena received valuable information about African formation technology from his former mentor, he said that politics played a disproportionate special instance in arousing his ethical dilemma. The political reason that Kwabena stared down his former mentor reflected an entirely new perspective.

Here, he acknowledged his former mentor’s mastery not only in highlife music but also in the drumming tradition, but he was displeased with the fact that the individual in question said nothing about recent problems in the country or the periods of economic difficulties under the present government.

As much as his stage performances and the consequent enchanting stage appeal make it easy for any person, even a layman to notice, Kwabena was wise and strategic in his answer when asked if his appearance on stage is similar to his personality.

Notably, instead of responding to matters regarding the dichotomy between the flamboyant man on stage and off-camera, he stressed on passion for genuine music. Explaining himself further, he said: “I am what I am on stage because I wish to always live the song and also ensure that whoever is listening or watching, feels it.”

This extensive interview not only revealed different sides of Kwabena Kwabena as an artist but also revealed a thinker of different twists and turns of life and career.

This kind of probing elicited from him rather reasonable views about family, creativity, and the issues of carrying a business-like relationship in the context of the entertainment industry in Ghana.
