His Royal Highness, Dr. Ibrahim Bello, the Emir of Gusau in Zamfara State, has passed away at the age of 71 after battling a prolonged illness in Abuja

Appointed on March 16, 2015, as the 15th Emir of Gusau, Dr. Bello reigned for a decade, earning widespread respect as a unifying and dedicated monarch.

Prior to ascending the throne, he had a distinguished public service career, leading to the position of Permanent Secretary in both the former Sokoto and Zamfara State civil services.

Governor Dauda Lawal, in expressing his condolences via spokesperson Sulaiman Idris Bala, described Emir Bello’s death as both a personal and community loss.

He lauded the monarch as “a supportive royal father and capable leader who led with commitment, dedication, and deep faith”.


The governor extended heartfelt sympathies to the Zamfara Council of Chiefs, the Emir’s family, and all residents of the state.

“I have lost a confidant and a father whose wisdom guides me and others in leadership,” the governor added. He prayed that the Almighty Allah may forgive Emir Bello’s shortcomings and welcome him into Aljannah Firdaus Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced soon by the Gusau Emirate Council
