Malawi Labour Day 2025 sees President Chakwera face rising worker demands on pay, pensions, and job promotions in Balaka.

Malawi Labour Day celebrations in Balaka have drawn nationwide attention as President Lazarus Chakwera presides over this year’s May 1 event.

The gathering comes amid growing worker frustrations about low wages and stalled promotions in the public sector.

Labor groups together with civil servants insist on immediate actions from their government.

The Malawi Congress of Trade Union (MCTU) together with the Teachers Union of Malawi (TUM) have initiated an urgent request for salary modifications.

Workers are struggling to survive because inflation continues to reduce their earnings according to their perspective.

Teacher Elizabeth Kaliza Banda leads the chorus of critics against the government in Lilongwe.

She pointed out delayed career advancements together with not receiving retirement payments which proved the government was not properly caring for its employees.

Banda predicted that such issues without resolution would lead to Administration losses during the September 2025 election.

The ceremony happening at Balaka Stadium represents more than standard official proceedings.
