Nigeria opens a new AfCFTA air corridor to Kenya, Uganda, and South Africa, reducing export costs by up to 75% and enhancing trade in textiles, cosmetics, and agro-products.

On May 26, 2025, Nigeria officially launched an African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) air corridor to Kenya, Uganda, and South Africa, aiming to bolster exports and reduce logistics costs for Nigerian businesses by up to 75%.

Announced by Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, Nigeria’s Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, the corridor operates via Uganda Airlines and is part of a broader strategy to enhance Nigeria’s trade connectivity within Africa.

The initiative targets key sectors such as textiles, cosmetics, and agro-products, facilitating easier access to markets in East and Southern Africa.

By significantly lowering transportation barriers and costs, the corridor is expected to make Nigerian exports more competitive and profitable.

Additionally, the Nigerian government has officially gazetted AfCFTA tariffs, unlocking lower tariff rates for exporters and further boosting trade opportunities under the agreement.

This move aligns with Nigeria’s commitment to the AfCFTA framework, which aims to create a single market for goods and services across Africa.
