Nigerian activist Verydarkman challenges EFCC’s ‘fair hearing’ stance, alleging personal mistreatment and warning against actions targeting his associates.
Nigerian social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as Verydarkman (VDM), has publicly criticized the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) following comments made by its chairman, Olanipekun Olukoyede, regarding the principle of fair hearing.
In a recent interview, Olukoyede emphasized the importance of not condemning individuals like Oweizidei Thomas Ekpemupolo, also known as Tompolo, without a thorough investigation into allegations of naira mutilation.
He stated that everyone deserves a fair hearing before judgment is passed.
Reacting to this, VDM recounted personal experiences where he alleges EFCC operatives threatened his mother by pointing a gun at her during a bank visit and threatened to shoot his friend in the leg.
He also claimed that his phone and car were confiscated without any charges filed against him, suggesting these actions contradict the EFCC’s stated commitment to fair hearing.
VDM further warned the EFCC against arresting his associate, Tompolo, asserting that any such action would lead him to expose and disgrace the agency.
He questioned the EFCC’s selective enforcement, pointing out that the son of businessman Chief Okoya was not accused of naira mutilation despite similar circumstances.
Additionally, VDM criticized the EFCC for not taking action against CBEX scammers and announced plans to file a petition against the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) concerning issues in an Anambra market.
