I handle pressure with calm, focus, says Osimhen
Nigeria’s star striker Victor Osimhen has shrugged off criticism over missed chances, saying, “Sometimes I score, sometimes I miss.”
The Super Eagles forward, who scored twice in the 4-1 win over Gabon, acknowledged the pressure of playing for his country and club, Galatasaray, but emphasised his ability to stay composed and correct mistakes.
In a video shared on Thursday on Instagram by sports journalist @iamcalisports, Osimhen explained that as a professional striker, he has learned to stay composed regardless of missed opportunities.
He said,
“Sometimes I score the goal that no one believes and sometimes I lose the one that people think I’m going to score.
But that doesn’t take away… I always have this mentality.”
Osimhen, who missed two clear chances in the second half, made up for it by scoring in extra time.
He emphasised the importance of quickly correcting mistakes
Wike, soldiers altercation: Respect the uniform, no offence committed — Gen. Irabor, Matawalle
The dust raised by the altercation between the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, and a naval officer in Abuja a few days ago is yet to settle, as former Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor, retd, and Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, yesterday warned that any act of disrespect towards the uniformed services amounted to an affront on the authority of the Nigerian state.
The minister actually dismissed any justification for disciplining Lieutenant A. Yerima, the naval officer involved in the fracas, describing the encounter as “unnecessary and avoidable.”
However, Wike yesterday debunked social media reports suggesting a personal beef with the military but insisted he would not succumb to intimidation.
Dollar to Naira exchange rate today, November 14, 2025
The Nigerian naira traded at an official Daily Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market (NFEM) fixing of about ₦1,441.33 to the US dollar on Friday, November 14, 2025, the same level recorded at the start of the day.
On the parallel (cash) market, dealers quoted the dollar at roughly ₦1,460 (sell) and around ₦1,450 (buy) in major cities — a premium of roughly ₦18–₦28 above the NFEM fixing depending on the quote and time of day.
Black-market trackers showed averages near ₦1,455–₦1,460 on November 13–14.
The gap between the official NFEM fixing and parallel-market quotes has remained a feature of the market this week as cash demand in informal channels and short-term importer hedging keep parallel rates richer than the official fixing.
Analysts say the split reflects ongoing demand pressure outside formal windows even as liquidity in official channels appears steadier.
Genocide: What we discussed with American officials — Amaechi
Former governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, has cleared the air on the meeting with the then opposition figures, held with American officials, saying it was only to press for a free and fair election.
There were allegations that the then political opponents of former President Goodluck Jonathan had pressured the Americans to ensure that the opposition defeated the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, administration, citing the Christian genocide in Nigeria.
But speaking at the National Conference of Editors, in Abuja, yesterday, the former governor, who was a key figure in the administration of late President Muhammadu Buhari, said there were no such discussions between them and the Americans.
His words,
“There have been talks about some clandestine meetings in America. No, there was no meeting in America like that.
There was absolutely no meeting in America like that.
There was just one meeting, and we were invited to the meeting and the discussion.
The question was from the Americans -look, we don’t want violence in this election and we should have trust that there would be no violence.
”Ponmo consumption threatens $5bn leather industry — FG
The Federal Government has raised alarm over the rising consumption of hides and skins, popularly known as ponmo, warning that the trend poses a major threat to Nigeria’s leather industry, currently estimated at about $5 billion.
The caution was issued during the National Campaign Against the Consumption of Ponmo held on Thursday, November 13, 2025, in Abuja.
Speaking at the event, the Director-General of the Raw Materials Research and Development Council, Prof. Nnanyelugo Ikemounso, said eating hides deprives local manufacturers of essential raw materials needed to sustain the country’s leather production and export capacity.
He noted that the local industry heavily depends on hides and skins as core inputs.
Ikemounso revealed that Nigeria’s leather goods market was valued at $2.79 billion in 2024 and is projected to expand to $4.96 billion by 2033.
He warned that diverting hides to food consumption could hinder this growth trajectory and undermine national economic gains.
