Nigerian music video director ThankGod Omori Jesam, popularly known as TG Omori, has shared how the church played a defining role in shaping his career in filmmaking.
Speaking on his early journey, Omori disclosed that it was the church that first advised and funded his move into the film industry. According to him, church-organised drama nights provided the platform for him to discover both his acting and directing skills at a time when his neighbourhood lacked entertainment outlets or theatres.
“The church gave me a platform to discover my acting and directing skills at drama nights when the hood or trenches had no social clubs or neighbourhood theatre houses,” Omori stated.

Omori urged Nigerians to appreciate the role of the church rather than criticise it, stressing that the support he received far outweighed the family’s financial contributions over the years.
“If I calculate my whole family offering for 10 years growing up, it no reach ₦20,000, money wey my papa dey take down beer steady that year,” he added with humour.
Known for his groundbreaking visuals in the Nigerian music scene, TG Omori’s story adds to the growing list of entertainers who began their craft in religious settings before breaking into mainstream success.
