UK and Albania enhance strategic partnership with new agreements on migration, defence, and economic collaboration during Prime Minister Starmer’s visit to Albania.
UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer was hosted by Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama in Albania, marking the first official visit by a UK Prime Minister to the country.
The meeting occurred ahead of the European Political Community summit scheduled for the following day.
During their discussions, the two leaders acknowledged the success of their joint efforts in tackling migration and intelligence sharing, which have been instrumental in reducing migrant flows from Albania.
They agreed to further these efforts through an updated UK-Albania Strategic Partnership.
Prime Minister Starmer expressed his intention to extend this collaborative model across Europe via the Joint Migration Taskforce, an initiative both leaders supported.
The meeting also highlighted the strengthening of defence cooperation and the expansion of economic ties between the UK and Albania.
Both Prime Ministers emphasized the importance of the upcoming European Political Community summit as a pivotal moment for Europe to demonstrate solidarity with Ukraine and a commitment to shared security.
The leaders concluded their meeting with plans to continue their dialogue during the summit.
