Insecurity: FG approves 94,000 new enlistments

The Federal Government will recruit over 94,000 new personnel into Nigeria’s security services as part of measures to tackle rising insecurity across the country.

Under the plan, the Police Service Commission and the Nigeria Police Force will recruit 50,000 police constables.

The recruitment portal is expected to be open to eligible Nigerians from December 15, 2025, to January 25, 2026.

In a statement on Thursday by the Head of Protocol and Public Affairs, Torty Kalu, the Commission said the recruitment portal would open to eligible Nigerians from December 15, 2025, to January 25, 2026.

The statement partly read,

“The PSC, in collaboration with the NPF, is pleased to announce the commencement of recruitment of 50,000 Police Constables into the Nigeria Police Force, as directed by President Bola Tinubu.

Following this Presidential directive aimed at strengthening community policing, enhancing internal security and expanding the manpower base of the Nigeria Police Force, the Commission has approved the opening of the recruitment portal for applications from eligible Nigerians.

“For the General Duty cadre, applicants are required to possess GCE Ordinary Level, SSCE/NECO or equivalent qualifications with at least five credits, including English Language and Mathematics, in no more than two sittings.

Nigeria killings: US officials prepare high-level briefing for Trump

The United States congressional delegation, led by Congressman Riley Moore has concluded its fact-finding mission to Nigeria over alleged genocide and is expected to brief President Donald Trump before the end of the month.

Court officials confirmed that the arraignment is scheduled to take place at the Gwarinpa Division of the Federal Capital Territory High Court.

CBN sets one-month deadline for dual PoS connectivity

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has ordered all financial institutions, acquirers, and payment service providers to implement mandatory dual connectivity for Point of Sale (PoS) transactions within one month.

The circular, signed by Director of the Payments System Supervision Department, Rakiya Yusuf and dated December 11, 2025, updates a September 2024 policy.

“It aims to address frequent PoS downtime caused by reliance on a single transaction channel.“

Under the new rule, all acquirers, processors,and payment terminal service providers must maintain active links with both the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS) and Unified Payment Services Limited (UPSL).

NIS announces temporary disruptions on passport platform

The Nigeria Immigration Service has announced that its Passport Digital Platform will undergo routine system maintenance, resulting in temporary service disruptions for users.NIS said the maintenance window will run from 12:00 a.m. on 12 December to 6:00 a.m. on 14 December 2025 (GMT).

This was contained in a public notice shared on the service’s X handle on Friday and signed by its Public Relations Officer, ACI AS Akinlabi.

According to the statement, the exercise is aimed at enhancing system performance and improving overall user experience.

The Nigeria Immigration Service wishes to inform the general public that it is carrying out routine maintenance on its Passport Digital Platform to enhance system performance and overall user experience.

“During this period, users will experience temporary service interruptions, slow response times, or limited access to selected NIS Passport Services,” the notice read.

Don’t allow money laundering, EFCC urges Opay

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has urged OPay’s management and staff to place greater emphasis on complying with existing regulations to maintain business integrity and curb fraudulent activities.

This call was made by the EFCC Chairman, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, during a courtesy visit to the commission’s headquarters by OPay CEO, Mr. Steven Wen, along with other senior executives on Thursday.

The call comes at a time when Nigerian fintech companies are facing increasing regulatory scrutiny, especially around Anti-Money Laundering controls, fraud prevention, and customer verification processes.

The EFCC boss, speaking through its Chief of Staff, Michael Nzekwe, emphasised the role of anti-corruption in stimulating economic growth.

He urged Opay to uphold strict compliance with laws in all business operations.

“Work on Know Your Customers, KYC, don’t give room for fraud, don’t allow your company to be used for money laundering and comply with every law of the land,” Olukoyede said.
