Operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have arrested a 70-year-old man, Okon Akpan, along with three others over alleged attempted murder and suspected cult-related activities.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Timfon John, disclosed that the suspects were apprehended on March 20, 2026, at Ikot Asukpong Village in Uruk Anam Local Government Area, following credible intelligence.
The other suspects were identified as John Samson (45), Emmanuel Asuquo (50), and Idorenyin Umoh (22).
Police said the arrests were linked to a petition involving allegations of attempted murder, malicious damage, and cultism. Acting on the report, detectives carried out an operation that led to the suspects’ capture.
During the raid, officers recovered a locally fabricated pistol and two long guns, reinforcing suspicions of their involvement in violent activities.
Authorities noted that investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend other members of the group, adding that the suspects will be charged to court upon completion of the probe.
The Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to maintaining security in the state and urged residents to provide timely information to support crime-fighting efforts.
