Prominent Liberian Lawyer Condemns Speaker Koffa’s Forced Eviction as Unlawful Power Move

Legal expert Cllr. Taiwan S. Gongloe has recently voiced strong condemnation against Speaker J. Fonati Koffa’s unlawful eviction from his official space.

House Speaker J. Fonati Koffa received public condemnation from Taiwan’s S. Gongloe who condemned his forced eviction from office—speaking on Spoon FM, Cllr. The lawmaker Gongloe stated that this action constituted both illegalities and demonstrated worrisome government authoritarianism.

The Majority Bloc-led coalition of House Representatives imposed an eviction order on February 11, 2025, aiming to make Richard Koon the new Speaker of the House. During the 68th Armed Forces Day celebration at the Barclay Training Center President Julius Maada Bio of Sierra Leone gave the keynote speech while the eviction occurred.

Representative Kolleh instructed the maintenance team along with the House Sergeant-at-Arms to carry out a forced entry of Speaker Koffa’s office which led them to remove his personal items.

Cllr. In his strong statement, Gongloe criticized the action that had “The removal of House Speaker J. Fonati Koffa and his belongings from the office is illegal and undermines the governance structure of Liberia.”

According to Kolleh, who also warned about the dangerous implications of this action, such behaviour from lawmakers creates an early indication of conflict. The honourable site has fallen victim to corruption that is responsible for this degrading action.

In conclusion, the forcible eviction of House Speaker J. Fonati Koffa has illuminated huge concerns concerning the rule of thumb of regulation and democratic governance in Liberia.

The outspoken complaint from prison specialists and lawmakers alike highlights the need for a radical exam of the movements taken and a recommitment to lawful and moral governance practices.

The way forward would require planned efforts to uphold the Constitution, respect the separation of powers, and make sure that all governmental movements are carried out within the bounds of the law. Only through such measures can Liberia desire to strengthen its democratic establishments and keep the beliefs of its residents.
