The Gambian President Adama Barrow introduced a D396 million scholarship scheme to support students learning Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

The government created this scholarship program through its approach to building skills while empowering young people with technical education to boost national job creation efforts.

The President of The Gambia highlighted the role of vocational education as a solution to reduce unemployment and propel economic development at the launch event.

President Barrow declared that the educational initiative supports his government’s priority to deliver important technical abilities to Gambians who want to work in building construction and car mechanics and agricultural sectors and information technology fields.

The TVET investment allows the government to create additional career opportunities which exceed standard academic learning.

The scholarship fund provides monetary support for tuition expenses together with necessary learning materials as well as necessary fees to beneficiaries who enrol in accredited vocational institutions.

The planned program expects to support education for numerous students across the country especially targeting poor students who lacked access to professional training before.

The scholarship program receives endorsement from both education professionals and industry leadership because they see it as a solution for filling essential workforce skills gaps.

Vocational training experts have consistently emphasized the need to create programs which follow industry needs as a solution to decrease foreign reliance in essential industries.

Young Gambians participating in the scholarship program will gain the necessary competencies that will help them establish their business ventures.

The government has established clear selection criteria to guarantee scholarships arrive at the most qualified students during the funding distribution process. Technical and vocational institutions throughout The Gambia make plans to receive additional trainees as they expand their facilities to improve training quality.

The Barrow administration works to establish education and youth empowerment as vital elements of national development efforts. The government pursues vocational training investment to build an innovative workforce that will lead The Gambia’s progress toward economic development.
