Chinese businessman Ross Boss appeals to Nigeria’s EFCC for the release of activist VeryDarkMan
In a heartfelt video message from China, entrepreneur Ross Boss has called on Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to release detained activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM).
Ross Boss recounted how VDM assisted him in recovering funds lost to an online scam involving a Tanzanian individual.
He described the activist as “a voice for the voiceless” and urging authorities to recognize his positive contributions to society.
VDM was reportedly arrested on May 2, 2025, following an incident at a Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) branch in Abuja, where he accompanied his mother to address alleged unauthorized deductions from her account.
The circumstances surrounding his arrest have sparked widespread public outcry and calls for transparency from the EFCC.
Ross Boss’s appeal adds an international dimension to the growing support for VDM, with numerous Nigerians and public figures, including Afrobeats star Davido, advocating for his immediate release.
In his video, Ross Boss emphasized that VDM’s actions have positively impacted lives beyond Nigeria’s borders, stating, “He hasn’t done anything illegal. He is a good person.”
The EFCC has yet to issue an official statement regarding VDM’s arrest.
As public pressure mounts, supporters continue to demand clarity on the charges and advocate for the activist’s release.
