Fuel prices in Zanzibar rise for April 2025, with petrol at Sh2,949 per litre and diesel at Sh3,194.

Despite the increase, the prices remain below those of the Tanzania Mainland.

Fuel prices in Zanzibar have risen for April 2025, as announced by the Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (ZURA).

The recent price adjustments have elevated fuel costs for both petrol and diesel so petrol now maintains a rate of Sh2,949 per litre and diesel stands at Sh3,194.

The fuel price structure on Zanzibar maintains rates which fall under the levels found on Tanzania Mainland.

The Public Relations Manager at ZURA Mbaraka Hassan Haji attributes the recent price increases to global oil market fluctuations combined with rising transportation expenses and Tanzanian shilling depreciation against major currencies.

The price of petrol has risen by 0.34% at Sh10 per litre while diesel experienced a 1.88% increase at Sh59 per litre.

The authorities sustained fixed prices in March until international oil prices started to shift then.

Aviation fuel and kerosene experienced minor price increases in the market during this period while aviation fuel soared by Sh30 per litre while kerosene maintained its existing price of Sh3,200 per litre.

This may lead to effects on both local and international travel industries.

ZURA meticulously evaluates worldwide oil market patterns together with shipping fees and exchange rates as well as import costs and taxes imposed by the government when establishing fuel prices in Zanzibar.

Fuel prices in Zanzibar maintain lower rates than mainland Tanzanian regions as well as Dar es Salaam which results in reduced energy costs for Zanzibar citizens and enhances market competition in its local fuel sector.

The local position of advantage offers Zanzibar essential protection against increasing world energy expenses thereby giving its energy sector increased stability.
