Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle should work toward uniting the team according to Mobi Oparaku who helped Nigeria win Olympic gold in 1996 and played for the national squad.

The Nigerian team must unite their collective strength instead of relying on individual talent to advance toward the FIFA World Cup tournament.

Nigeria currently holds only three points in Group C of the African qualifiers because its opponents Rwanda, South Africa, and Benin maintain their positions in the top three standings.

The Super Eagles require strong team unity to revive their World Cup qualification prospects during their March matches against Rwanda and Zimbabwe according to Oparaku.

The 48-year-old former Nigerian Olympic champion emphasizes that the Super Eagles must focus on unity as their primary strategy to succeed. At a critical moment for the Super Eagles Oparaku recommends that teamwork should become their priority to improve overall performance.

The Nigerian team must function as one unified unit when playing football because it remains a collective sport. According to Oparaku, the team needs unity and teamwork, especially in the upcoming crucial matches. Individual talent alone will not suffice according to Oparaku because the team has shown poor team coordination throughout their qualifying matches.

During the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign the Super Eagles intend to reverse their previous 2-1 loss to Rwanda. Coach Chelle now leads Nigeria forward into World Cup qualifiers after their successful continental qualification despite a previous defeat to Rwanda.

The team’s upcoming matches against Rwanda in Kigali on March 21 and Zimbabwe in Uyo on March 25 strongly depend on Oparaku’s current advice. Coach Chelle leads a meeting in England together with Hedi Taboubi to consult with Premier League players including Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey and Ola Aina and Taiwo Awoniyi.

The team’s staff conducts discussions on tactical plans during these sessions to establish performance targets for the double-header matches.

Group C leader Rwanda maintains a seven-point lead while South Africa and Benin hold the second spot thus Nigeria needs two wins to stay in contention for World Cup qualification. Lesotho maintains a fourth position with five points yet Zimbabwe occupies the last place with two points. The Super Eagles face strong pressure to deliver success while unity stands as their main strategic approach.

Mobi Oparaku emphasizes that teamwork combined with unified effort will be essential for the Super Eagles to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
