The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reaffirmed its intention to bring Peter Obi back into its fold, calling the former Labour Party presidential candidate a valuable asset.

A PDP spokesperson, Ibrahim Abdullahi, described him as the party’s “product” and emphasized ongoing discussions to facilitate his return

Obi, a former PDP member and vice-presidential candidate in 2019, left the party in May 2022. His departure followed complaints about vote-buying, delegate bribery, and internal cliques undermining his ambitions

Segun Sowunmi, a PDP chieftain, appealed for Obi’s return in several interviews. He highlighted the southeast’s long-term support for PDP and argued Obi’s growing grassroots following makes him a vital political asset.
Sowunmi described Obi’s support base as “organic” and rich with representation potential.

Still, the Labour Party leadership warns Obi should resist the calls, arguing that leaving LP would portray him as opportunistic and weaken the revitalization effort within his current party

Opposition coordination talks are ongoing between Obi, Atiku Abubakar, and Rabiu Kwankwaso. PDP suggests that their return could offer a united front strong enough to challenge the ruling APC in the 2027 elections

As talks continue behind closed doors, the coming months will prove pivotal. Will Obi rejoin PDP to consolidate opposition strength, or will he remain with LP.
