Southampton Boost sees Saints extend contracts for two promising Nigerian talents, doubling down on youthful potential.
Southampton Boost has arrived at St Mary’s Stadium. The club has offered fresh contracts to two rising Nigerian stars.
Princewill Ehibhatiomhan and Abdulhalim Olarewaju Okunola were informed they can stay at the club beyond June. This moves highlights Southampton’s commitment to nurturing young talent.
Ehibhatiomhan is a striker who joined Saints in March 2023.
He signed his first pro deal after a successful trial. His record so far includes 15 goals in 44 appearances across Premier League 2 and Premier League Cup matches.
He also netted eight goals in just 17 U18 league matches.
Okunola arrived from Chelsea in summer 2023 on a two‑year scholarship.
The centre‑back made 27 appearances last season in U18 Premier League and FA Youth Cup. He has now earned a shot at a pro contract following strong performances.
The move sends a clear message. Southampton values its youth system and believes these players can contribute to the first team. Promoting academy graduates is central to their long‑term strategy.
Beyond these two, Saints retained several other Nigerian talents and young prospects. Names like Zachariah Awe, Joe Aribo, Samuel Edozie, Paul Onuachu, and Adewale Oyekunle remain on board.
At the same time, some players faced release. Notably, Derrick Abu left the club, ending his journey with the Saints.
Southampton Boost reflects a club aiming to blend youth with ambition. Offering new deals to Ehibhatiomhan and Okunola underlines belief in the club’s development pathway. These players now enter pre‑season with fresh purpose and support.
As Ehibhatiomhan prepares to sharpen his scoring touch, Okunola readies himself for senior defensive duties. Both need to build on recent success and prove their worth in training and behind closed doors.
The Saints’ fans and academy staff will be watching closely. These signings could pave the way for more young stars reaching the senior squad. Southampton’s belief in homegrown talent reinforces its identity and future direction.
