United States: Beto O’Rourke criticizes Biden’s re-election bid, citing Democratic Party’s 2024 defeat and concerns over concealed health issues.
Former Texas Representative Beto O’Rourke has openly criticized President Joe Biden’s decision to pursue a second term, asserting that it significantly contributed to the Democratic Party’s failure to prevent Donald Trump’s return to the presidency in 2024.
Speaking on the “Pod Save America” podcast, O’Rourke stated, “We might very well lose the greatest country that this world has ever known, and it might be in part because of the decision that Biden and those around him made to run for re-election.”
O’Rourke’s remarks align with revelations from the new book Original Sin by Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson, which alleges that Biden’s inner circle concealed signs of his cognitive decline during his presidency.
The book claims that this lack of transparency led to strategic missteps, culminating in Biden’s withdrawal from the race in July 2024 after a poor debate performance.
Following Biden’s exit, Vice President Kamala Harris stepped in as the Democratic nominee but was unable to secure victory against Trump in the subsequent election.
In response to these criticisms, Biden’s team has defended his record, asserting that there was no clear instance where he failed as a president due to mental decline.
The Democratic Party now faces internal debates over leadership decisions and strategies as it prepares for future elections.
