X.com formerly Twitter.com might face a content violation probe in the European Union. The EU is currently investigating the Billionaire social media for a potential breach.
According to a report by Reuters, the investigation came to light after several posts related to Hama’s attack on Israel surfaced on X.
Many of the contents on X related to the attack by Hamas on Israel on the 7th of October were termed fake news/content. From images to videos and text-based content.
Thierry Breton, the EU chief had sent out a memo to social media giants like TikTok, Meta, X, and more. The memo was a reminder to tackle fake content on their platforms since the war between Hamad and Israel.
Tech giants, including Alphabet Inc. (Google), must now comply with the Digital Service Act (DSA).
This is Elon Musk’s social media first scrutiny under the Digital Service Act (DSA). DSA, established in 2023 is to regulate illegal content that poses a risk to the general public.
According to the European Union, their probe into X will focus on the spread of what is classified as ‘illegal content’ in the EU. They will also look into the solution provided to tackle these issues on the platform which is the newly introduced community note on X.
What is a community note on X? Commnunity note is a tool on X.com which allows users to flag illegal content, misleading content, and fake news.
Eu will also dive into the X.com data access that it provides its researchers with. According to a senior EU representative, the steps being taken against X do not make the platform guilty of any sort of infringement of DSA policy but only need to be investigated in some specific area of the platform in detail.
The step that we are taking today does not find X guilty of an infringement, or conclude that X has actually infringed the DSA but merely states that we have significant ground to investigate these areas in detail. It is important that this process remains free of political influence and follows the law.
In response to the memo sent out by Thierry Breton, they replied with the the things they have put in place to tackle mis-information/fake news.

According to Elon Musk, he doubts other social media platforms are receiving the same treatment from the EU. To get an answer, he asked the European Union chief, Thierry Breton in a post.
Because if you have those issues with this platform, and none are perfect, the others are much worse.

So far, X has been the only social media that has received a high level of investigation under DSA. The EU said in a statement that it would look into the measures taken by X to control misinformation, as well as its blue check subscriptions.
In addition to their statement, they also added that they have made progress in their investigation on X. The commission has gone through the analysis report submitted by X back in September. X also made public their transparency report which they have also gone through.
The Digital Service Act (DSA) now has a new rule on content moderation. The new rule will require a breacher under their acts to pay a whopping 6% of their annual income.
