India and Angola enhance their strategic partnership during President João Lourenço’s state visit, focusing on defense cooperation, trade expansion, and digital infrastructure development.

India and Angola enhance their strategic partnership as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço held bilateral talks in New Delhi on May 3, 2025.

This marks the first visit by an Angolan President to India in 38 years, coinciding with the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations.

During a ceremonial welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan President Lourenço experienced a 21-gun salute which followed his visit to Rajghat to honor Mahatma Gandhi.

The leaders held their meeting at Hyderabad House to discuss ways for deepening collaboration across defense and trade sectors as well as digital infrastructure development and capacity enhancement programs.

The Indian Prime Minister introduced a defense credit line worth $200 million which serves to help Angola achieve modernization in its defense sector.

The Indian government remains dedicated to providing digital public infrastructure and space technology and healthcare know-how to other nations.
