Ghanaian veteran actor Koo Ofori arrested for alleged $2M fraud scheme.
In a stunning development that has sent shockwaves through Ghana’s entertainment industry, veteran actor Koo Ofori has been arrested by the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) on charges of alleged fraud.
The 62-year-old screen legend, known for his iconic roles in numerous Ghanaian films, is accused of masterminding an elaborate investment scam that reportedly defrauded victims of over $2 million.
According to police sources, Ofori allegedly posed as a financial consultant offering “guaranteed high-yield investments” to wealthy individuals and fellow celebrities.
The scheme reportedly collapsed when investors failed to receive promised returns and grew suspicious of his constant excuses for delayed payments.
The arrest has left Ghana’s film community reeling, as Ofori was widely respected as one of the industry’s elder statesmen.
“This is heartbreaking news for all of us who looked up to him,” said fellow actor Prince David Osei. “We’re waiting for the full facts to emerge before passing judgment.”
Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) investigators revealed that Ofori allegedly used his celebrity status to gain victims’ trust, even providing fake documentation showing impressive (but non-existent) investment portfolios.
Some victims reportedly mortgaged properties to invest in what they believed were lucrative opportunities.
Legal experts suggest the actor could face up to 25 years in prison if convicted on all charges.
The case has sparked renewed calls for stronger regulation of celebrity-endorsed financial schemes in Ghana’s entertainment sector.
