The new tech-based community upliftment initiative by IHS introduces a massive change to the Kwamashu township of South Africa.
The telecommunication infrastructure company has introduced free Wi-Fi in the streets and digital training to residents.
Hotspots are located throughout the region to enhance access to online learning, job searches and small business tools.
In addition to access to the internet, IHS is providing classes in the basics of digital safety, email, and basic coding.
The programme will eliminate the digital divide and provide underserved communities with genuine entry into the digital economy.
This initiative helps to achieve national objectives of inclusive technology and long-term empowerment, IHS South Africa says.
The project has been received with enthusiasm and optimism by the residents and more so the students and small vendors.
Others claim that the internet connection will assist the children in their studies whereas others intend to have an online presence in their businesses.
This is only the start. IHS will increase the rollout and intensify digital education in the like-minded communities.
To Kwamashu, it is not just free Wi-Fi but a chance to grow, empower and a better digital future.
