Edgar Lungu has told citizens to call for the presidential polls contending that the current President Hakainde Hichilema (HH) has mishandled the nation’s economy.

Addressing the public on Wednesday, Lungu stressed the need for Zambians to put pressure on the president, stating that an early election is “imperative”

He also condemns the President for how his administration handled the cholera outbreak, which has taken over 500 lives since October.

He encouraged citizens to demand Hichilema’s resignation and they should also call for early presidential polls.

The government spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa disregarded the allegations, urging the citizens to give the president more time to fulfill his promises.

Mweetwa also accused the former President of damaging the country’s economy during his administration.

Lungu, who came back into politics in October would have his retirements benefits withdrawn.

Having been defeated into retirement at the 2021 presidential election, Lungu is set to return to politics to contest in the 2026 presidential race.

Citizens still have time to make the most important decision as the next general election is in 2 years time.
