Nigerians unwilling to die for their country signals a crisis of patriotism, warns politician Tonye Princewill.
The former gubernatorial candidate cited a new survey showing only 19% would defend Nigeria unconditionally.
Speaking on Arise TV, Nigerians unwilling to die was Princewill’s key concern. “When leaders fail citizens, patriotism dies,” he stated, linking the trend to unemployment and insecurity.
Youth reactions are mixed. “Why die for leaders stealing our future?” asked student activist Chioma Okeke. Others maintain patriotic duty transcends government failures.
Princewill proposed urgent reforms:
1) Transparent leadership
2) Equitable resource distribution
3) Genuine national dialogue
Opposition parties called the data “a wake-up call.”
